The mission of the Mancos School of the West (MSW) is to provide opportunities for learning, collaborations, and connections through creative experiences for the residents and visitors in the beautiful Mancos valley.

As the Mancos School of the West (MSW) does not currently have a designated classroom space, classes and workshops are held at instructor’s studios or homes (after approval), a public library (most have rooms that you can reserve for free), the Mancos Grange, or the Mancos Community Center ($80 per day plus refundable deposit). If you would like to do a multi-day workshop or retreat you might consider the Harmony Barn (tinburro.com/harmony-barn-gathering-space), especially if you are coming from out of town as it has an on-site apartment for rental.

Local Instructors

As a local creative, we invite you to teach with MSW to enhance and build creative community in the town of Mancos and surrounding areas. MSW will provide marketing to give expose to the local and surrounding community along with providing a listing on the MSW website. MSW also encourages artists to do their own out reach for potential students and to secure their program space if needed. Teachers set their own registration cost. MSW will retain 20% of tuitions to cover all costs related to marketing and coordination, both locally and in the surrounding areas. You may also choose to charge students a materials fee for items consumed during the class. Students pay this directly to the instructor.

Visiting Instructors

Visiting teachers will be guided to find the appropriate space for the workshop through working directly with MSW. MSW also encourages artists to do their own our reach for potential students and to secure their program space if needed. Teachers set their own registration cost. If you would like to do a multi-day workshop or retreat you might consider the Harmony Barn (tinburro.com/harmony-barn-gathering-space), that has accommodations above the workshop space.

Students Love Our Teachers

“I love that my instructor ethically sources all her materials and imparts so much knowledge about their properties, spiritually. Kelly’s fine craftsmanship, creative ideas, and positive energy make all her workshops a pleasure.” – Mary McCartney

“For those of you who have not taken a class from Kelly, you are totally missing out! Kelly is an amazing instructor. She is so clear in her directions. I’m not an artistic person, but I have taken several classes from Kelly, and each time I take home a piece of art or jewelry that I am proud of displaying. She has a way of getting your creative juices flowing. So when you hear yourself saying, “I’m not artistic or creative”, don’t let that you stop from taking a class from Kelly. You have it in you…..take my word for it!” – Jana Goldstein
