Explore different brushes, paints to use, and best paper for best results. Learn how to set up a palette, basic color wheel, and how to mix colors. After an instructor demo, learn to paint forms to make them look 3-D. Discuss and be shown examples of basic composition, perspective, and textures. From your own or a copied photograph, you will paint a landscape. Class critique, where to get supplies, and how to begin on your own.

OBJECTIVES:

Learn how to set up a watercolor palette, all about brushes, and what paper works best. We cover the basic color wheel and how to mix colors to make what you want. Composition, how to make things look 3-D, shading, and texturing are discussed and shown by demonstration. Students will paint a landscape from their own pictures. A critique at the end of the day is valuable.

Materials are supplied by instructor.


WHAT TO BRING:

Bring a lunch and photo of a landscape to paint.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:

Students are required to wear masks and be vaccinated against Covid-19.

About The Instructor:

Southwest watercolor artist Jan Wright creates unique and vibrant paintings. She was  Mesa Verde’s Artist in Residence in 2012 and currently exhibits at Artisans of Mancos. She has had over 25 one-woman shows, and her work is in several public and private collections.
