Using botanicals is an inspiring and magical way to make monotypes. Anyone can create a lovely greeting card or artwork from this creative and exciting process. We will evolve from simple prints into more complex multi-layered prints to get beautiful results. New and experienced artists will learn to make unique prints using flowers, leaves, feathers, found objects, and various colors. You may then use the completed papers to collage on a painting, in journals, greeting cards, and much more.

Engage with this enjoyable way to explore colors and patterns and learn the art of layering. During this class, you will:
Learn the art of pulling and pressing to achieve different effects from the Gelli Plate. No experience required.

Experiment with different leaves and flowers and found objects to create interesting forms and capture the complexity of Mother Earth’s creations.
Utilize layers with primary or muted tones and metallic paints to develop brilliance and contrast or muted softness.

Explore how to create single ghost prints and build further forms with them.

Discover how to layer your paints to create depth and mystery.

Experiment with Rice Paper or other mixed media paper for different effects.

The Gelli Plate activates the creative juices that may have been lying dormant. Anyone can do this process, and using botanicals brings a delightful, unique, and inspiring process. At the end of the session, we review our work and share experiences with the group.

Students will:
• Experience creative flow, uplifting energy, and fun.
• Take home many colorful and unique printed paper pieces for future projects.
• Create a card or frame-worthy botanical image!
• Be introduced to design and layout concepts.

Supplies Included: Gelli Plates of various sizes. (If you do have one—bring it)

Materials Fee: $10 to be paid directly to instructor during the class. This is for rice paper and mixed media papers, paint, and botanicals.

Artist Statement: “Mother Earth and horses are my passion. I live a spiritual life and listen deeply to the messages offered by the earth and all animals. Their messages travel through me in the written word and my art. All sense of separation disappears, and I am one with that which speaks. Layers of textures, colors, mark making, and shapes, along with different types of paper, tissues, and other mixed media, invite the image to come forth, abstracted and complex the horse or landscape emerges. I hope you discover something beyond what you have always seen, something spiritual and expansive, and appreciate how much our earth and horses offer us beyond the traditional experience.”
