Experience painting the magic of our fall aspens in all their glory! Create a beautiful composition from your own photograph in watercolor! See how painting in watercolor creates a beautiful expression of color!

Learn or review how to:

  • create a good composition from a photograph
  • make a graded wash of sky
  • mask out leaves to reserve their bright yellow
  • make the aspen trunks look three-dimensional
  • make textures to give the trees character
  • paint a background that accentuates the aspen
  • make shades for depth and expression
  • create details as you paint the foreground

Description

About The Instructor:

Southwest landscape artist Jan Wright has been painting in watercolors for 50 years. Having moved to Mancos in 2008, she became a member of Artisans of Mancos and is to this day and had an exhibit at the lodge at Mesa Verde that lasted 6 years and coordinated the Artist in Residence program there for 3 years.

Jan created her ‘Hands of the Ancients’ Medicine Cards consisting of 28 paintings of the Four Corners and wrote a book “Encounters with Nature – An Artist’s Spiritual Awakening.”

Her most recent large exhibit “Reflections of an Ancient, Living Land” was a great success this summer.
